The Wheel of Emotions

This wheel was created by Robert Plutchik to illustrate different sentiments and responses a person has to different situations.

We often tend to have have a mixture of feelings when something surprising or stupefied comes across.
Whether its good marks in an exam which you thought you would fail or you're having an anxiety attack or simply just a surprise party. There's this mix of emotions which cannot be expressed in words because of the overwhelming feeling that comes on us. We often tend to be nonplussed and perplexed when such kind of circumstances fall upon us that we end up reacting completely different from what we are feeling.

Let me draw a picture for you. Imagine, you're up till 1am studying for an exam the next day. You're stressed because it's a really important. You're crying and studying and trying to cope with the great stress but you ultimately come to stop and decide to sleep. Next morning you give the exam. There's this blend of relief because its over along with tension of your results. A few weeks past and your marks are posted. You check it even though you don't want to. The screen opens up showing that you passed with flying colours. There's a huge sigh of relief simultaneously you're flabbergasted and disillusioned. You feel like you made it.  That staying up late and working hard and not giving up finally paid off.

That's what I'm trying to convey.

Sometimes you might feel murky or elusive or delighted. Sometimes you might not recognize your feelings. Which is why the 'Wheel of Emotions' was created. To recognize the overwhelming and profuse feeling that you go through. To understand what you need to do incase you don't like feeling that way. Or to know how to continue that feeling.

We have 8 fundamental emotions viz, anger, anticipation, fear, disgust, joy, surprise, trust and sadness.

Now the question arises, how do we use it?
Its pretty simple you know.
You start with looking at the fundamental emotions. You select the one which you feel is most appropriate to describe your mood and then you continue in that section. You continue going through words that describe your mood until to reach the final one which BAM! is your mood!

So in conclusion, take the wheel of emotions and find out what mood you're in and how you can stay or overcome it :)

Signing off,
Kuhu :)
