Therapy

Heyy!

Welcome back!

Today, I just wanted to throw some light on an important issue that's prevalent. I wanna talk about 'why' rather than 'what' it is.

Therapy.

None of us wants to take this seriously. The one's who do, get bullied for it. The terms 'psycho' and 'mental' come to mind when you come across a person who goes to therapy. A lot of people don't even know what it is and assume it as something wrong whereas some don't even allow it and some refuse to believe that something like this exists.

Why?

Why is it wrong to seek professional help when you cannot deal with something yourself? Why is it so hard to accept the fact that someone is mentally disturbed and cannot open up to his peers? I'm not talking about adult therapy or child therapy here. I have come here to talk about teenage therapy and how it needs to be normalized in our society.

Lots of people go through changes which they fear they cannot talk about openly to their parents or their friends for the simple reason of being 'judged'. I know a lot of people going through this and it takes a lot of courage to come up and speak on it.

A safe environment needs to be created to be express yourself freely. Encouraging people to open up about this issue is extremely important. It doesn't matter how small the issue is. Whether it is just a case of bullying or getting terrible marks; it can grow. Your mind is like an ocean. You drown in your thoughts. And therapy is the lifeboat. Now I don't mean to get so philosophical here, all I'm trying to convey is that SPEAK UP. Open yourself, if not to your friends or family then to a doctor. They can guide you and help you.

There are multiple types of therapy. Not all therapy is stereotypical, lying on couch therapy. Some may just need group therapy where they interact with people going through the same situation whereas some might need a therapist who helps through trauma.

I'm sure a lot of people who don't allow therapy at home have their reasons. Just ponder over the thought once, that if you were in that position and were going through the same situation, wouldn't you want it?

I take into consideration that this is a vast topic and I have covered just a fraction of it. I just wanted to exhibit that people should be able to express themselves freely and to create a safe zone for them.

Drop your thoughts and experience on this topic and don't forget to share and subscribe if you agree with me. Stay tuned for more.

Signing off,

Kuhu :)

  1. Nowadays, mental health isn't given enough importance as it was during the end of the era of wars where everyone supported soldiers and survivors with PTSD. People use words like "depressed" too casually. I'm not saying that everyone who uses it doesn't mean it, but many people don't understand the actual meaning of such terms and they need to stop using it like it's a small thing.

    1. Very true. It's become more of a 'trend' of saying 'I'm depressed' for people which is neglecting those who actually suffer from it and cannot ask for help.

  2. Kuhu well articulated. It's serious issue both among children and adults and should be dealt with as a sickness and treated by doctors. Neglect of mental illness has as serious consequences like any other illness the ones which we can see.
