Pmuls!
Hie and welcome back to this month's bloggo!
If you're an ardent Brooklyn 99 fan (you know I love <3), you're probably familiar with the term 'Pmuls'.
If not, it's simply the word "slump" written backwards.
Why backwards? Because that's what this post aims to convey!
(How do you come out of a slump)
Slumps happen to the best of us.
You just get stuck - it feels like you aren't making any progress while everyone around you seems to be doing swimmingly.
Your motivation disappears, your thoughts feel foggy or stuck on a loop, and there’s this low-key heaviness that follows you around—like your spark is dimmed but you don’t know why.
You're throwing darts everywhere without realising that the dart board is actually lays 10 feet diagonal to you.
But the worst part isn't going through a slump - it's coming out of one.
As someone who's gone through various cycles of this, I thought why not share a few tips that help me come out of one - or in the famous Jake Peralta's words - Pmuls!
- Make a micro to-do listNot your usual 500-point life overhaul.I'm talking “drink water,” “shower,” “reply to this text.”Dump everything you need to do - on paper or digitally - and for one second just forget that this is your to-do list (yes, I know that's a little counterintuitive to the title of this tactic, but hear me out.)Look at it as things you just gotta do. Then, add dates across it.Be realistic, you're NOT going to get it all done in a day. Then arrange. Then rearrange if you've got too much in a day. Then clean it up.Now pick the easiest task that you can off your list and strike it.The goal here isn’t productivity—it's momentum.
- And with Momentum comes Movement. No, not a marathon (unless you're prepping for MarMon!)I'm talking about stretching, a light workout.
Taking a random 7-minute walk with some hype music? 10/10 would recommend.
(Also helpful to have mood booster playlist made before burnout cycles)Your brain sometimes needs your body to lead the way out. - Take a “no-context photo walk”Go outside for 10 mins and take the weirdest, most random photos you can find—like a boot stuck in a fence or a pigeon with attitude. No filters, no captions, no social media.Just a little visual scavenger hunt to remind you the world’s kinda strange and wonderful, and get your creative juices flowing again.
- If all goes to heck, talk or sleep.
And first thing in the morning, don't run to your phone. Get a post-it and write down a why. A why am I doing this.
And remind yourself,
Tomorrow exists.
It’s easy to feel like you’re alone in a slump, but the truth is, we all go through it—it’s part of being human. The key is to remember that even when you feel stuck, there’s always room to take one small step forward, even if it’s just through a little bit of humor or a change of pace.
That's it for today's post. Hope that some of these techniques help you!
Please share and follow for more content, every second Friday of the month!
Signing off,
Kuhu :)
