Anxiety- Does it Exist?

Anxiety: Calling

We're all familiar with the term "anxiety" but do we really know what it exactly is? Everyone just says "I'm having so much anxiety" or "Mujhe anxiety hai" without really knowing voh hai kya.

I recently came across a few people who not only did not know anxiety was, but also refused to believe that something like that existed.
I was appalled after they left. I mean not only do you not know what it is but tumhe believe hi nahi karna hai that it is something!

When I asked them what they thought anxiety  was, they said it was just a "technical term" used by this generation  to act cool and stuff and an excuse to get out of personal and social responsibilities. I was like-What?! I was totally stunned that there are some people who are clueless about it and then make such comments I mean-??

So, I decided to play my part and help spread awareness on what it actually is and what you can do to help.

What is "Anxiety"?

The answer I would give would be pretty vague. It's a vast topic which honestly cannot be comprehended into one paragraph.

Anxiety is a change in the thinking patterns, beliefs, emotions and actions of a person. Its the change in thoughts of an apprehensive being for the worst. You intend on imagining the worst case scenario instead of focusing on the present.
I'm not talking about the one's where its severe rather just the generalized one-which we all have at times.
It's a natural response to stress. Its a normal emotion which may lead you to doubting yourself at times. Am I good enough? Is it okay? I should have done the other thing.

Self doubt is common. But its important to channel it towards the right direction.

Is it real?
Of course! Its an extremely common symptom that almost every person goes through. Could be a strong gut feeling or shortness of breath or laziness, anything. This can often be self diagnosed and but slightly hard to recover from. Check up on yourself. It's important.

  Top Myths

1.  People with anxiety should avoid stressful situations.

Stressful situations or encountering an anxiety trigger can be extremely unpleasant for someone with an anxiety disorder. Although it may seem helpful to avoid stressful situations, this is extremely difficult to maintain. Stressful situations are a fact of life, and an important part of managing anxiety is learning effective coping strategies that help people manage their anxiety during times of stress.

2. The only effect is panic attacks

Whoever said this or believes this, sorry but you're wrong. There are thousands of more reactions to anxiety right from sweating to laziness. You can't say that unless you're having shortness of breath or hyperventilating, you don't have anxiety.

3. Social anxiety is the same as being shy.

It's not. Social anxiety is an anxiety disorder, while shyness is considered part of someone’s personality. Social anxiety disorder, or social phobia, involves a persistent fear of social situations, or extreme worry about performance in a social group. Someone with social anxiety is extremely preoccupied with the fear that they will embarrass themselves or be scrutinized by others in a social situation, and they will often avoid social situations or experience extreme anxiety or panic in the lead-up.

Of course these are just a few but I'll write more about them soon.

This was more of a "what" rather than "why" for Anxiety. I'm ngl, this is actually volume 2 on this topic. It was earlier based on the causes, effects and stuff but that would make no sense if you don't know only what it is.

Ok anyways, I'm so sorry for writing half of the post in Hindi 😂. Drop your thoughts and don't forget to share and subscribe if you liked this :)

Signing off,
Kuhu :)
