why i’m really glad i started a blog as a teen (1/3)
I started this blog without really knowing what I was doing.
No plan. No structure.
Just a vague sense that I had thoughts I needed to put somewhere that wasn’t the Notes app.
At the time, it felt small.
It mostly comprised typing out late-night rants (a questionable number of my posts are 2am thoughts), weird analogies (from Cockroaches to Chicken Nuggets), and half-baked reflections. But looking back now, it’s one of the best things I've ever done.
Not because it went viral. Not because it got a ton of views.
But because it gave me something way more valuable: practice.
Writing regularly helped me structure my thoughts better. And when your thoughts start to flow better, everything else follows.
You start becoming clearer when you speak. You start noticing how people express themselves.
You even start catching yourself mid-sentence thinking, “Wait, that actually makes sense.”
That shift helped in more places than I expected.
From presentations to class discussions, even casual conversations, I felt more grounded.
Moments where I wasn’t just speaking for the sake of it, and could actually hold a train of thought.
But it also has its hidden perks: college, interviews, and life in general.
You’re constantly asked to explain who you are and what you care about.
If you’ve been writing or creating for a while, you already have some answers.
Not perfectly worded ones. But honest ones. And that's what makes a difference.
Over time, this blog definitely helped open doors.
I interned at a journalism house. Got invited to a podcast.
Not because I had a "perfect portfolio", but because I had proof that I cared about writing and ideas.
Sometimes, that’s all you need to show.
But this isn’t just about writing.
Over time, what I’ve come to realise is that when you start something creative - a blog, music, painting, or whatever - you give yourself permission to explore. You give your ideas some space to breathe, which, over time, builds into something real.
And the best part is that you can control every aspect of it: there's no set "expectation" or "rules" you have to follow. You're the sole proprietor and everything's in your hands.

So, let this post be the gentle nudge if you’re thinking of starting something (DO IT!)
Don’t wait to be "good" at it. Or for the perfect moment.
Start because you have something to say, even if you’re not sure what it is yet.
You’ll get better as you go. You’ll find your voice—quietly, slowly, stubbornly.
Growth is messy. But it's also beautiful.
Give yourself that chance.
Give yourself that chance.
Signing off,
