Heyyo everyone!
With the immense amount of love and success on my previous post, a lot of y'all wanted a part II so here we are :))
Aaj ka post is a myth buster where we tackle a few common misconceptions about ADHD.
Without further ado, let's get it to it!
Starting off,
No.
Though sugar intake, watching too much TV, and a chaotic family life can worsen symptoms of ADHD, research shows that they cannot actually cause the condition and be the root of it. It's universally known that high consumption of sugar makes one jittery, but it doesn't mean it leads to a mental disorder. So, throw the idea out of the window that ADHD is caused due to the above.
Again, absolutely not.
The disorder can also affect teens as well as get carried onto adulthood. ADHD in teens and adults is almost always accompanied by other mental illnesses such as tw: depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. However, very very few people with the condition seek treatment.
Nuh uh.
No mental illnesses have only ONE kind.
I don't want to get very scientific about it, but ADHD can broadly be distinguished into 3 categories.
- Inattentive ADHD is characterized by lack of attention to details, inability to follow or remember instructions, and getting distracted easily.
- Hyperactive-impulsive is usually marked by symptoms like fidgeting, running, and talking too much.
- Combined type is a combination of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive ADHD.

Lastly,
Okay that's like saying, "we're all a bit OCD."
No No No.
We all don't have a "bit" of a mental disorder.
We all have days when we feel a bit inattentive and disorganized, but for someone to receive an ADHD diagnosis, they need to have many more symptoms than just simple hyperreactivity. These symptoms can significantly impair the person’s everyday routine-that's when it gets classified as a disorder.
Of course, goes without saying, you and I are not people who can just look at it and diagnose. Go to a professional if you feel the need of it, don't just go by someone's saying.
That is it for today's post! Hope I could help debunk a few common misunderstandings.
