Heat and (Mental) Health

 "They have a link?!"

This was my first thought when I came across this 'weird' but true correlation.

We've all heard (and probably experienced) the physical effects of heat waves.

Today, I'll be elaborating on the Mental Health side of it!
Without further ado, let's get to it.

`Temperatures in India can rise up to anywhere between 40 - 50 degrees Celsius during the summer season. This leads to extreme agitation among residents and can lead to extreme levels of various emotions, the most common one being anger.

Other effects include heatstroke, lethargy, and dehydration.

Another impact of the same is that it may lead to hospitalizations which further adds to mental stress alongside a financial burden.

Heat waves cause extreme temperatures an can impair a person's cognitive abilities, increase the gravity of an already existing aggressive behavior, or influence people to do or say stuff they normally wouldn't. It makes them cranky and easily irritable.

Science alert!

Heat waves create an imbalance of serotonin, your body's "happy hormone", which leads to the above "irritable mood".

And that's more or less how heat waves can affect your mental health!
So, stay indoors, fresh and hydrated throughout the weather and don't forget to share and follow for more!

Signing off,
Kuhu :)
