Math Anxiety

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back! Just to be clear, this isn't an entirely different subfield of Anxiety, as in the disorder, rather just another 'type' of anxiousness we feel - similar to Eco Anxiety ; up to the level of being scared of it. I had this period too. I used to cry before exams, begging for some miracle to occur. After research, I found out that Maths particularly is one subject whose incomprehension attacks us the most.  The reason:  Maths is a whole other language .  Though you'll find some English in it, majority of it is just a bunch of random symbols making sense. What is "Math Anxiety" and its Impact? Maths anxiety can also be called as a feeling of tension and apprehension that interferes with performance ability, especially in math, and the solving of mathematical problems in a wide variety of ordinary life and academic situations. Math anxiety is more than just feeling nervous about doing math. It's feeling anxious about everything r

Toxic Friendships

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back!  With friendship day around the corner, I wanted to throw light on a pretty unspoken topic based on it! A lot of us have probably heard of the term 'Toxic Friendships' but not done such a great job at recognizing it. I've had my share too and definitely had a tough time recognizing it until recently. This "revelation" led me to think about how common this is, having witnessed several, and how we can recognize and put an end to one. P.s. This post is not promoting the idea of calling out your friendships and breaking them on the spot because of one red flag, but just to spread awareness that such stuff still exists and you must try to not be one.  So, without further ado, let's get to it!   Firstly starting off, What IS a 'Toxic Friendship'? In simple words, friendships where you feel burdened by the other persons company can be called a toxic friendship. The friendship tends to be more of a competition rather than a hea

Burnout After 10th.

Image
(Another B99 reference!)  Hey everyone and welcome back! Today's post is quite personal because this is something that I went through recently and I know a lot of my peers did too.  The underlying fact however is, none of us want to admit it. For most of you who don't know, I recently passed 10th grade a couple of months ago and I am just a few weeks into Grade 11. I spoke about my experience in 10th grade:   H ere but I wanted to talk about what happens after 10th grade.  In simple words, A slump. (Keep in mind, I'm authoring this post just 2 months into 11th grade)  I recently hit a slump (probably still in it haha) which led me to think, why not talk about it? Most people are going through one? The fact is that, at least in an Indian education system, people put a lot of pressure on 10th Grade - and that pressure is valid. 10th is super important for life and you need to work hard this year.  What most people discard is that we burn ourselves out SO much that we start

Harvard you this fine day?

Image
Hey everyone and welcome back to month 24 of #faltufriday! And no, this post is not clickbait - I really did go to Harvard for their summer school! I spent a few weeks learning not just my course content but also a lot of other things I wanted to share with y'all. So, without further ado, let's get to it! My Course I am fascinated by the links between computer science and psychology so the course I had gone with was Digital Media: Society, Culture and Economics. This turned out to be the perfect fit for me which also made it so much easier to learn because it didn't seem like a burden. We would have daily readings as homework, but on the days that we were lucky, we'd get movies to watch as homework too! In fact, the first class was so engaging that we could complete only half of what we had planned for the day. Throughout the course, we went in-depth with a lot of digital media concepts; my favourite being when we learnt about VFX and had a (horrendous) screening of th

Metacognition: Thinking About Thinking

Image
Metacognition is the process of thinking about your thoughts.  You're doing it. You just don't know it. This technique is usually promoted by professionals to deal with some mental health issues and also by several teachers in the classroom. In simpler words, it is like a big brain watching and analyzing your own brain. In today's post I won't be focusing on the technical aspect of it rather, I'll be discussing more about how we can incorporate into our lives and it's benefits.  Without further ado, Let's get to it!  A person has about 6000+ thoughts on an average daily. We as humans have a natural tendency to do 2 things: Overthink most of our decisions or blissfully ignore them. Metacognition falls into the former part and can also be coined as 'healthy overthinking'. It involves one’s thinking process leading to better study techniques, memory processing, and the ability to self-monitor one’s learning process. You become the person who self-questi

The Importance of Mental Health

Image
Welcome back everybody! If you're a gen-z or a millennial, chances are you are probably well acquainted with the idea of mental health. In today's post, I'll be tackling the idea of why it is so stigmatized and why it is equally as important as your physical health. Without further ado, Let's get to it! Growing up as a kid, third grade me was exposed to the term 'mental' as a swear to describe someone as a lunatic.  "Bro you belong in a mental hospital" was a line that came up in nearly every conversation- and still does to this date. This was just my first expose to the stigmatized world of Mental Health. Teasing someone and bullying them by using this phrase contributed to the idea in our brains that being out of line=crazy=mental disorder. We had a picture drew up in mind about someone in white overalls, open uncombed hair and walking with small steps with their neck bent sideways- most movies promote the idea in the same way. The exposure to all

The "Therapist Friend"

Image
Hello and welcome back everyone! HAPPY 100TH POST!! A lot of us may have come across the term "Therapist Friend" of a group. The stereotypical description of the same would look something like this: The quiet, calm, cool and collected one with the best advise whom anyone can approach for the minutest of inconveniences. A good listener is the basic trait possessed by them.  However, the fact still lies that most people misuse the term 'Therapist Friend.' A few months ago, I had authored a post titled ' Facebook Therapy Memes ' which led to this topic.      It was also suggested by a reader of my blogs and I found it to be extremely insightful considering it's high misuse, so I decided to throw a bit of limelight on the same. Without further ado, let's get to it. The phrase 'Therapist Friend', I believe, is a wrong term.  This is simply just my opinion but let me justify why. There is a significant mixing up of the term 'Friend' and a &#

Overthinking 101

Image
Hello everybody!  Welcome back!! Now anyone who knows me personally would describe me some what as a 'professional overthinker'. Partly due to my anxiety, partly due to my extremely cautious mind, and partly due to self doubt , I have always tried my best to stay one step ahead, which may or may not have led to excessive amounts of overthinking eep :p Except, I know I'm not the only one who goes through this🤷🏻‍♀️ Let's admit it, we have all spent a significant amount of time pondering over embarrassing moments, reliving conversations in your head and thinking about all the things you wish you had or had not said.  A very recent case of mine: I was supposed to send the working of a numerical to my pedagogue. I initially approached it by dividing it by a thousand then overthought and decided to cut it off and leave it as is. When he told me it was incorrect, the queen of silly mistakes noticed that they had added incorrectly :)  That wasn't just it. The final answ

Murder Mysteries and Me :)

Image
I can't remember a time before I discovered the wonders of spy thrillers and murder mysteries. Ever since my childhood, I have always had a fantasy for crime fiction and detective stories. Be it the brilliant writings of Carolyn Keene in “The Nancy Drew” series, or the amazing direction of Dan Goor in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, solving puzzles has always fascinated me. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode titled “The Bank Job” is my favourite from the show. It was filled with various instances of thrill and suspense and the ending was absolutely shocking leaving me wanting more. As a person who enjoys problem-solving, this genre has resonated with me. The reason why I love reading as well as watching shows from this category is that it always keeps me on the edge of my seat. Twists and turns, clandestine subplots and innumerable possibilities, all to add up against the one person you suspect the least. The enthralling escapade of reading about one’s imagination and how they bring it to life

Stress Eating

Image
Heylo everybody! Welcome back <3 I had dedicated all the posts in the November, 2021 to Eating Disorders. I'm glad to share that we had an extremely successful event that month which brought in a great new number of readers as well.  One peculiar observation I had made was that despite throwing limelight on such topics, there was still a bit of confusion in the air about what classifies as 'normal behaviour' and when it starts extending into a disorder. Note: I'm not trying to diagnose you here considering I'm not a professional and don't have the authority to do so. This post will mainly be focussing on a few differences between an Eating Disorder and regular hunger pangs.  Anyone who has met me in real life would describe me as an absolute foodie(something I'd say is hereditary in me :P). I love experimenting with new styles and dishes, be it street food or at a classy restaurant Anyway, I've also had my share of stress eating before important even
