What's Causing So Much Anxiety in Students?

Image
Anxiety or the feeling of anxiousness has become a constant issue among students of this age. School can be rife with stress, disquietude and worry. Not just academically, even social situations and norms have caused a steep rise in anxiety among the youth. Keeping up with futile trends, having the perfect image, interpersonal issues as well as peer pressure has played a key role in the up rise of this mental health illness.  So then the question arises, "If this is that common, where do we even know where this originates from?" The answer is simple-everywhere. The environment the youth is exposed to has multiple repercussions-one of which include anxiety. It can come from something that is happening in school, something that is happening online or even something at home. These three places are the most places where an adolescent spends 90% of time in; and that is where this can arise.  For most cases, one sees the first signs of anxiety are seen between the ages of kinde...

Unique Types Of Therapy Techniques

Image
Therapy.  Therapy, also referred to as psychotherapy or counselling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to solve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses. Beginning therapy may be a massive step towards being the healthiest version of yourself and residing in  the best life possible—irrespective of what challenges you may be facing. You may have seen a couple of posts regarding this on my pages earlier(if not, don't worry! I'll drop off the links at the end of this post where you can check them out). In most of them, I spoke about how going to therapy must be normalized and how we should be more open to exploring ourselves through therapy and not treat them as a taboo. One thing I incurred from most of the post responses was that there are still a lot of people who think that therapy is still the 'sit on a couch-blabber about your problems to a stranger' thing. Well even though it partly is, it is not completely lim...

Social Anxiety-What exactly is it?

Image
Hey! Welcome back everyone! Social Anxiety. A lot of us are more or less familiar with this term. We've heard it at school, we've heard it at parties-however, a lot of us have often used this as an interchangeable term with "shyness". I saw this getting very common hence thought, why not help clear out some confusions we have about this topic? First thing first, What is "Social Anxiety"? We all recognize the sensation of being frightened or uncomfortable in a social situation. Maybe you’ve clammed up when meeting a new person  or gotten sweaty hands before presenting a big presentation. Public speaking or walking right into a roomful of strangers isn’t very exciting for anybody, however most people can get through it easily-unlike the case in people having Social Anxiety. Social anxiety disorder, sometimes also known social phobia, is an type of anxiety disorder that causes extreme fear and fright in social situations.  People suffering from it tend to have...

Insomnia

Image
Hey everyone!  Welcome back to a fresh new month!  Today's post is a highly highly requested one by you guys so the wait is finally over! Sleepless nights or sleeping through the day is something that quite a few of us have experienced in our lives. Whether it was because you were stressed or excited-who knows🤷🏻‍♀️ The reasons are endless. However, once this starts becoming a daily habit without noticing, these are some signs that might point towards Insomnia. Starting off,  What exactly is "Insomnia"? In technical terms,   Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which you have trouble falling and/or staying asleep. Self-explanatory through most of it but not completely.  Insomnia is a common sleep disorder which could make it difficult to fall asleep, tough to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel worn-out while you're awake. Insomnia can drain not only your strength and mood but simultaneously yo...

Why are younger siblings so annoying?

Image
Hey y'all! A lot of us reading this post are either a single child or a younger or an older child(duh, obviously).  If you're an older sibling reading this, trust me you'll love it; but if you're a younger one, sorry but this is going to be calling out all your very annoying antics that you don't get scolded for and seem to get away with -_- If you're neither, enjoy me ranting about how annoying younger siblings can get :) I am an older sibling with an age difference of 5 years with my sister and trust me when I say, no matter what the age gap is, the younger siblings are always very galling. Right from kicking you off the bed when you're asleep to singing creepy songs in the middle of the night to blackmailing you with the smallest things ever-they've done it all; and most times don't even regret and apologise for it. Just a few of the annoying things my younger sister has done includes stealing my clothes, coming into my room while I was in a clas...

Sleep and Mental Health-Are they related?

Image
Heyy everyone! Welcome back! So, a couple of months ago I had written on the benefits of sleep on our regular life , which gave rise to a lot of messages in my dm saying, "How are sleep and mental health related?" and "What are it's benefits on our mental health then?"  Not kidding, they were flooding! Which is why I thought, why not write on this as a blog post 🤷🏻‍♀️ Without further ado, lets get to it :) Are sleep and mental health related? The short answer is, yes. Sleep and mental health are closely interconnected.  Not getting enough sleep skews our ability to regulate our emotions. In the long run, this can increase our risk of developing a mental health condition. Poor sleep leads to worrying. Worrying leads to poor sleep. Worrying about sleep is like your mind trying to fight itself. It isn't a position you want to be stuck in. The second your sleep schedule starts messing up is when your mental health might begin to deteriorate. Not to mention, s...

Should Schools Take Mental Health Seriously?

Image
Hey Everyone! With the 'back to school' mode beginning for almost all of us here's a post based on it!   School can be rife with stress, anxiety, panic attacks and even burnout-but there's often no fixed policy for students who need to prioritize their well-being.  Mental Health has often been one of the most neglected topics that a majority of schools ignore. There are plenty of educational institutions all over the world which do take this seriously, however not all. The term "Mental Health" is itself stigmatized in a majority of places. People do not speak up about it and are scared to even open up about it in the fear of judgement.  Where does the problem even begin? We as students, spend almost most of our time either at home or at school. The age group of 12-18 is most likely to develop symptoms that may affect one's mental health during this age due to a number of reasons. It could be due to something at home or stress, tension, pressure, etc. from ...

Mental Struggles Of The LGBTQ+ Community

Image
Heyy everyone!  Happy Pride Month to all my lovelies 🏳‍🌈  As you all might be aware, the month of June is celebrated as International Pride Month all over the world! It is celebrated with great grandeur both online as well as in real life. However, there are a lot of struggles that people of this community go through on a daily basis mentally, which isn't spoken about as much as it should.  Today's post is a slightly different one. I had a fun interaction with a friend of mine from the community speak about the mental struggles which really opened my eyes! I wanted to share a couple of them with you guys to spread awareness on this extremely unaware topic.  Right from coming out of the closet to dealing with people talking about you behind your back, all this adds up to a lot of mental burden which often has dire consequences. Over the years, the LGBTQ+ community has confronted extreme prejudice, discrimination and violence due to their sexual o...

My Love For Bollywood

Image
Bollywood has always played an integral part in shaping up my personality. Right from childhood to teenage, I have always been, what some might say, a "Bollywood Baccha". On the occasion of month 10 of #faltufriday I decided, why not write about my VERY big obsession with Bollywood movies :) I was about 4 months old when I heard my first Bollywood song and have been more is less infuriated with🤷🏻‍♀️ My all time favourite movie, throughout my childhood and teenage has definitely got to be "Om Shaanti Om" and songs from "Rang de Basanti". Every time someone would play a song from either of these films(at times even others), you could always see 6 month old me just sitting and grooving with joy :) Anyways, over time this gradually faded out. From the ages of 5-12 I really staged started getting into English Pop Music which then saw its downfall in my music taste graph chart by the time I turned 13. A close relative of mine was getting married and I was to ...
