Unique Types Of Therapy Techniques

Therapy.

Therapy, also referred to as psychotherapy or counselling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to solve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses. Beginning therapy may be a massive step towards being the healthiest version of yourself and residing in  the best life possible—irrespective of what challenges you may be facing.

You may have seen a couple of posts regarding this on my pages earlier(if not, don't worry! I'll drop off the links at the end of this post where you can check them out). In most of them, I spoke about how going to therapy must be normalized and how we should be more open to exploring ourselves through therapy and not treat them as a taboo.

One thing I incurred from most of the post responses was that there are still a lot of people who think that therapy is still the 'sit on a couch-blabber about your problems to a stranger' thing. Well even though it partly is, it is not completely limited to that. It is a much much wider field than what one might imagine.

So, on that note, for today's post I decided, why not talk about some unique types of therapy that are completely different from your regular 'sitting on a couch' therapy and probably types you've never even heard of!

As the name suggests, it is a type of therapy which uses horses as a medium for therapy. People interact in activities which includes grooming, feeding, and leading a horse while being supervised by a mental health professional. Goals of this form of therapy includes helping humans increase skills together with emotional regulation, self-confidence, and responsibility. Equine therapy offers them a therapeutic environment that can feel less threatening and more inviting than a traditional talk therapy office.

Ever heard of this one?

Most mental treatments contain a few forms of role playing or the other. Chess therapy addresses traditional troubles of powerlessness, emotional expression and control. Chess therapy is now utilized by psychologists to allow patients to recognize and expand their capabilities in conflict resolution and decision making in a real-life simulation on a chess board with the use of rooks and pawns. A chess move will result in a conversation on the strategy so one can grow to be a conduit for expression of feelings.

And last but not least,

Building sand castles is fun in the summertime and can have healing value, too. Much like chess therapy, sand play remedy offers people with problems communicating the chance to share their emotions through designing scenarios with collectible figurines in sand trays. Children and adults, relay their emotions via expressive creations without ever having to speak a word.

That was it for todays post! Hope it was educative and enjoyable :)

Of course, there are multiple other kinds of therapy techniques that exist in the world; these are just a few which I found extremely unique!
