The Wordle Craze

 Hello!

Most of us have probably been familiarised with the new trend of 'Wordle'.

Wordle is a web-based word game developed by Josh Wardle. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word.

Though the idea seems rather simple, it has surely lured a lot of its users into some sort of addiction whereby they make sure not to miss out on the daily challenge. It has also recently been bought by The New York Times and has a special touch to it.

The question arises,

How did they do it?

The answer is simple.

Simple interface. Simple concept. Simple words(but, a tough nut to crack).

As mentioned above, you get six chances to guess a random 5 letter word however, every time you get an alphabet correct, it turns yellow for 'right letter, wrong place' and green for 'right letter, right place.'

A key point to notice in this is it provides only one word each day.
It is common to all and pushes people to their level best to crack open the nut and solve the word in the least amount of tries as possible.

The type of motivation needed to accomplish a game can be called as need for cognition, and people who have a high need for it tend to seek out mental challenges like word games such as this one.

One could argue that those who possess the following traits, have a better edge at conquering each 'word' of the daily wordle.
A few of them include:

  • General and verbal intelligence
  • Phonological awareness
  •  Literacy in English
  • Familiarity with large numbers of words and spelling patterns and the urge to solve intellectual problems
As a person who loves problem solving, this game has greatly resonated with me. It is highly captivating and I often have daily challenges with my best friend to see who gets the word in the least amount of tries.

Wordle is a game of logic. It's a habit that you cannot binge thus not very harmful to us. It's a fun little exercise to energise your brain cells every morning and gives us to share our results in the form of coloured boxes so as to not disclose the word and spoil the fun for everyone.

Another plus point: It offers us a spiritual lesson: you have to fail in order to win.

That was it for month 19 of #faltufriday! I certainly hope this trend continues for some time because its certainly one of the rare beneficial ones :)

Let me know in the comments below if you play this game too!
