Burn Out

Image
Burn out. Something that has become really very common in today's times among everyone-be it kids, teens or adults. In today's post, I'll mainly be focussing on it from a teen's perspective. In all honestly, I'll admit the source of inspiration for this post was through a podcast episode which I'll linking below :D But before I get to that let us first understand, What exactly is Burn Out? When you google this term, the first answer you'll get this definition: Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Though this is pretty self explanatory, it does not convey the entire meaning of the term 'Burn Out'.  Burnout can take distinctive forms, affecting someone physically, emotionally, and behaviourally. Burnout can consist of physical and mental symptoms such as frequent illness, disengagement and detachment along with blunted effect of feelings of frustration, helplessness, and hopelessne...

Importance of "Mental Health Days"

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back!! In all honesty, I was not well acquainted with the term "Mental Health Days" until I saw it in a TV show . This led me to thinking if something like this actually exists, and if so, how can it benefit us? So, I did my research, started implementing it in my personal life and wanted to share with you the importance of the same :) Without further ado, let's get to it! Starting off with the obvious, What is a "Mental Health Day" If your first thought was something related to taking a break, you would be correct. A Mental Health Day is one where you absolutely cut off from your rat race life and take a step back to rejuvenate yourself. It’s a day to relax, decompress and take care of yourself overall. For example, if you've just finished with your exams and sacrificed on your sleep schedule a lot, its regaining that. If you've burnt yourself out with various stressors, its taking a pause from it.  It's taking time out to rel...

Taking Breaks.

Image
Hey everyone!  Welcome back <3 A couple of month's ago, I had authored a post titled " The Importance of Mental Health Days ", which led me to write on today's blog post. Taking Breaks: Something which we either do extensively, or choose to blissfully ignore until we burn ourselves out :) I've always had a lot of people ask me how I stay so productive, managing academics, blogging and other extracurriculars. Truth is, I learnt it the hard way.  When I was in 6th grade, I was the biggest procrastinator you could ever meet.  I'd put things off until a day before the deadline, and rush to complete them in a haphazard manner, which obviously did not have great outcomes. Jump to 9th grade, I set onto the journey to buckle up my grades.  What I didn't take into account in the beginning was that I immersed myself so much in my studies, that I cut back on the other part of my life.  And naturally, this led to burn out plenty of times.  Only after I began b...

Dealing with Burn Out

Image
Hey everyone!  Welcome back <3 Congratulation to all my fellow ICSE readers, WE SURVIVED BOARDS PART I! Aaj ka post is a special requested one by many of my batchmates. I am a person studying in Grade 10 and this entire year, has been SO stressful and have led to several cases of burnout within me However, over time I've learnt a few coping mechanisms, which I wanted to share with you guys-because we all go through it-VERY FREQUENTLY.  I covered the topic on ' What is Burnout ' and today I'll be writing about a few methods I indulged in to bring myself up again!  Starting off, Be it catching up on your binging, reading a book, journaling whatever is your way to cool down-DO IT. It's more important now than ever that we work towards getting back to normal. But remember, Study-life balance is really important . Set up your schedule for equal parts school and fun or social activities. And don’t forget to make time for just YOU and  catch up on your missed...

Academic Validation

Image
✨Academic Validation✨ The dependence on physical awards as a sense of acknowledgement and appreciation. First things first,  This blog is not written to claim that academic validation is "bad" or that we should completely stop seeking it -  NO! It's authored to bring to the limelight the negative effects of academic validation on your mental health and how it affects not only yourself but your entire social circle.  With the school year almost coming to an end, award season awaits. For some of us, this is the most exciting time of the year - your yearlong efforts finally seek fruition. Some of us can only dream about standing at the podium. And for some, despite your hard work, you simply miss it by an inch. Now I'm someone who has experienced all 3 of the above scenarios; and if you're a "late bloomer", chances are, you have too. Getting awards, simply put, feels good.  It validates the sacrifices made: the late nights spent, and the occasional social e...

Burnout After 10th.

Image
(Another B99 reference!)  Hey everyone and welcome back! Today's post is quite personal because this is something that I went through recently and I know a lot of my peers did too.  The underlying fact however is, none of us want to admit it. For most of you who don't know, I recently passed 10th grade a couple of months ago and I am just a few weeks into Grade 11. I spoke about my experience in 10th grade:   H ere but I wanted to talk about what happens after 10th grade.  In simple words, A slump. (Keep in mind, I'm authoring this post just 2 months into 11th grade)  I recently hit a slump (probably still in it haha) which led me to think, why not talk about it? Most people are going through one? The fact is that, at least in an Indian education system, people put a lot of pressure on 10th Grade - and that pressure is valid. 10th is super important for life and you need to work hard this year.  What most people discard is that we burn ourselves out ...
