Mental Health Myths

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back<3 Today's post is based on an EXTENSIVELY researched one which I've been working on since last year.  Several Instagram questionnaires, talking with professionals to even my own experience around these.    Super hard decision to narrow these down to just top 5, but hey, gonna do a part two soon if y'all want it :) All of us have had various misconceptions about different topics and many of its branches such as Anxiety, OCD , Bipolar Disorder, Depression, etc. This post is not gonna cover any particular topic in depth rather the ones we hear in all of our day to day lives, with regards to "Mental Health". Without further ado, let's get to it! We can all agree that we HAVE heard this at least once in our lives. I guarantee you have. It's time we bust this myth hmm? MENTAL DISORDERS AND GOING TO THERAPY DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAK. Let's have that cleared out. This is no more true than saying that a broken leg is a sign of weakne

Good Anxiety vs Bad Anxiety

Image
Heylo everyone! Welcome back!! I have been receiving numerous number of dm's saying that they haven't seen a post on Anxiety recently😂  So here you go :)  A post yet again on Anxiety! Aaj ka post is based on something I learnt recently and has helped me quite a lot. Anxiety, as we all know can be described as a change in the thinking patterns, beliefs, emotions and actions of a person. Its the change in thoughts of an apprehensive being for the worst. You intend on imagining the worst case scenario instead of focusing on the present.  Now general anxiety can be classified into to parts-good and bad; not something we're all familiar with right? (A lot of us think it's just hyperventilation and a constant state of panic-nope!) Let me explain the difference with an example: "Test anxiety" A certain amount of anxiety to an extent is good. It alerts your brain to take responsible decisions and think things from all perspectives before going through it.  Speaking

Hey everyone! Welcome back to a fresh new year <<3 With the immense amount of love and success my previous post based on the LGBTQ+ Community received, a lot(I mean, A LOT) of y'all wanted me to cover another post on this topic! Which brings us here :) In today's post I'll be writing about various thoughts a person might experience when coming out, how it negatively impacts their mental health, as well as ways one can support their friends from this community. P.S: Everyone has different experiences so I spoke to different people from the coterie and I tried my best to make it common to all teens :) Without further ado, let's get to it! Coming Out of the Closet It can be quite a tough process for a lot of people and is often coupled with a gazillion overpowering thoughts.  1. Self esteem takes a hit Years spent in the closet can make the prospect of revealing oneself an emotionally charged experience. However, the process is not just about revealing oneself to o

HEY EVERYONE! WELCOME BACK TO THE LAST POST OF THE YEAR!! 2021 has been one of the most enthralling year for the 'Damselz-in-Sanity's family.  Today's post is based on the biggest milestone's we have achieved over this year- every month! Without further ado, let's get to it :) JANUARY A low-key month, starting off with the year. Gradually gaining a lot of popularity and audience midway, and publishing my very own pieces of photography. Best post of the month: Aeipathy FEBRUARY Things took off.  All of the posts went viral and brought in SO MANY new readers. My dm's were flooded with praises of all of the post-cried at most of them cause they were so sweet-knew that my posts started to influence people in the positive way and, published my very first poem. Best post of the month: Procrastination MARCH A small bump in a highway of success. Though a lot of popularity as compared to the previous month wasn't gained, it marked the end of hiccups. Why? Keep readi

Support Groups

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome back <3 Today's post is based on something that is a bit unknown to some of us.  Support groups! Now a lot of us have heard about the term " therapy ", right? This is related to that.  Now explicitly speaking, the term Support groups' meaning is pretty straightforward. It's a meeting of a group of people, who have been through similar experiences, to provide help and companionship to one another. A primary distinguishing feature of support groups is that most times, a professional is present who doesn't share the problem of members and helps supervise the meeting. Are they really helpful though? Support groups have had a significant growth over the past few years and a lot of them have showed a positive result. I for one do believe that these are helpful. Let me draw you an example: Most of us are friends with people we share some common interests. We have topics of conversations and debates but there is always some subjects we don&

Hey everyone!  Welcome back <3 Congratulation to all my fellow ICSE readers, WE SURVIVED BOARDS PART I! Aaj ka post is a special requested one by many of my batchmates. I am a person studying in Grade 10 and this entire year, has been SO stressful and have led to several cases of burnout within me However, over time I've learnt a few coping mechanisms, which I wanted to share with you guys-because we all go through it-VERY FREQUENTLY.  I covered the topic on ' What is Burnout ' and today I'll be writing about a few methods I indulged in to bring myself up again!  Starting off, Be it catching up on your binging, reading a book, journaling whatever is your way to cool down-DO IT. It's more important now than ever that we work towards getting back to normal. But remember, Study-life balance is really important . Eco-Anxiety

Eco-Anxiety.     Not something a lot of us have heard of, right? I didn't either. Today's post is based on something I first came across on my Instagram feed but later actually saw it occurring in front of my eyes.  It aroused the question within me-is this really a thing? As usual, went up and read extensively about it and was flabbergasted to know that this in fact is a very real thing and chose to write a post on it :p Here we go :) To start off with the obvious question, What is "Eco-Anxiety"? More of a concept rather than a branch of anxiety, Eco-Anxiety is the feeling of being overwhelmed by the challenges of climate change and the concern about the environment's state. It is the helplessness that makes one see themselves as simply one insignificant entity on the planet, not being able to reverse the crisis. It is likewise the experience that no matter how hard we work, nothing will ever be enough. It makes one feel powerless in opposition to a supposedly im

The Pressure to be "Perfect"

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back :) Today's post is based on something that has become more prevalent than ever nowadays and also one which was HIGHLY requested by you guys!(Thank you so much<3) The pressure to be perfect   - it can be loosely translated into "The Clout of Judgement "  . I think all of us can agree the insistence of having everything "perfect" has significantly increased over the past few years, especially among teenagers. A lot of us have even been through this(guilty :P) Starting off, The 3 P's. Padhai, Popularity and the Perfect Body. 100% in studies and extracurriculars, the biggest and most happening social life ever coupled with having the most ideal body according to society. More often than not, not having even one of them makes one believe that they aren't "good enough" and makes a person susceptible to the fear of judgement. Little is it known that nearly everyone goes through this. The pressure to be a certain way, not

Mental Health Movies

Image
Hii! Welcome back to month 16 of #faltufriday!  Being an avid T.V. watcher I have always loved consuming content in the form of movies and T.V. Shows.  Couple of months ago, I had written on recommendations of my favourite T.V. shows which recently gave me rise to an idea; why not share my favourite movies too?  So, in that case, here are my "most loved" and go-to movies on Mental Health which I can watch innumerable number of times and never get bored of :) Number One: Charlie, a 15-year-old introvert, enters high school and is nervous about his new life. When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's demise and his tumultuous past. The reason I like this film is because it looks at the reality of mental illness among high school students. This film suggests the grim reality of living through a mental illness and having to deal with people who do not understand or care to understand. This film “normalizes” what Charlie is going through and shows him

Bulimia

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back <3 In last week's post we discussed about a type of eating disorder known as Anorexia. Aaj ke post mey we are going to talk about another type known as Bulimia. This is a kind of eating disorder often glorified in several number of TV shows.  To start off, Bulimia is a serious psychological eating disorder in which one has episodes of consuming a large quantity of food in one sitting aka binge eating. During these binges, one loses their sense of control over their eating. It’s binge eating followed by purging. Purging can occur through forced vomiting, excessive exercise, or by taking laxatives or diuretics, or any other such methods. People with bulimia purge follow a binge-and-removal cycle. Purge behaviours also include other strict methods to maintain weight like fasting, exercise, or extreme dieting. Though their isn't just one particular root cause, researchers believe this eating disorder may begin with dissatisfaction with one's body
