Naina and I are alike

Image
As almost everyone knows, Bollywood has always played an integral part in shaping my personality. Right from childhood to teenage, the one nickname I was known for was “The Bollywood Girl”. I have watched several films featuring various unique characters, however, there is only one with which I truly connected with - Naina Talwar, from the movie, “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani”. Naina and I are similar in ways more than one. She is introduced in the movie as an introverted outcast, a quiet girl who is an aspiring doctor, a software engineer in my case. Throughout her schooling years, she is described as the silent damsel, and has been given the quirky trait of a scholar. Often teased as a “chasmish”, these are just a few instances which make me alike her.  As someone who got past her reservations and shyness to embrace every moment and become an independent, confident individual, Naina taught me a lot. Her wholesome advice at challenging times, “Thora time do, sab theek ho jayega ” is a ...

Deeper into ADHD

Image
Heyyo everyone! With the immense amount of love and success on my previous post , a lot of y'all wanted a part II so here we are :)) Aaj ka post is a myth buster where we tackle a few common misconceptions about ADHD. Without further ado, let's get it to it! Starting off, No. Though sugar intake, watching too much TV, and a chaotic family life can worsen symptoms of ADHD, research shows that they cannot actually cause the condition and be the root of it. It's universally known that high consumption of sugar makes one jittery, but it doesn't mean it leads to a mental disorder. So, throw the idea out of the window that ADHD is caused due to the above. Again, absolutely not . The disorder can also affect teens as well as get carried onto adulthood. ADHD in teens and adults is almost always accompanied by other mental illnesses such as tw: depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. However, very very few people with the condition seek treatment. Nuh uh. No mental ...

ADHD-The Basics

Image
Heylo everyone! Welcome back <3 This is a topic on which I've been wanting to write for a REALLY long time and finally got the opportunity to.  In today's post we'll be discussing more of "what" ADHD is rather than how it arises and coping methods.  Without further ado, let's get to it! Starting off, What is ADHD? Full Form: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Now when you google this term, the top definition you get looks something like this: A chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. That's all that it gives. Though partly self explanatory, it doesn't convey the whole idea of what exactly this malady is. Let's understand a bit more about it, hmm? ADHD is a condition that affects people's behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse. It is usually diagnosed at an early age but in most cases continues till adulthood. Many children go throu...

Starting High School: All Over Again.

Image
Heyy everyone! Welcome to a fresh new month <3 Today's post is somewhat special. Not only is it a SUPER requested one, it's also a revamp of my very first blog: Starting High School. This post was authored by me almost a year and a half ago when I started high school during a pandemic. Jumpstart to 2 years, offline school began for me - the compulsory one :( and it has not been going as well as expected. Perhaps now is the time when my 'student feels' of stress and anxiety caused by school is kicking in, but nevertheless, I know this feeling is pretty common among my peers and other schoolmates so I chose to throw a bit of limelight on it in today's post! The pandemic induced online studies certainly had a few pros to itself. The biggest one being: Time . I am a grade 10th student so for me, any spare second I find is precious. Now don't get me wrong, going to school is beneficial, however, since you may have lost the rhythm of it, the first few days of it c...

The Wordle Craze

Image
Hello! Most of us have probably been familiarised with the new trend of 'Wordle'. Wordle is a web-based word game developed by Josh Wardle. Players have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Though the idea seems rather simple, it has surely lured a lot of its users into some sort of addiction whereby they make sure not to miss out on the daily challenge. It has also recently been bought by The New York Times and has a special touch to it. The question arises, How did they do it? The answer is simple. Simple interface. Simple concept. Simple words(but, a tough nut to crack). As mentioned above, you get six chances to guess a random 5 letter word however, every time you get an alphabet correct, it turns yellow for 'right letter, wrong place' and green for 'right letter, right place.' A key point to notice in this is it provides only one word each day. It is common to all and pushes people to their level best to crack open the nut and solve the word in the l...

Hugs Are Important

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back <3 Aaj ka post is based on something we all do, but whose importance we aren't really aware of.  Today, we throw a little limelight on it :) In this post, I won't be focussing on the psychological impacts it has rather a few unknown basic effects on our mental health. Without further ado, let's get to it! We all hug someone when something exciting, disheartening or stressful happens. It helps us feel better. This is mainly because of oxytocin released also known as the "cuddle hormone." But let's not get all technical.   It's simply just an escape. Hugs help you express your emotion and share it with someone.  Hugging is proven to make us healthier, happier and calmer. As well as being able to ease levels of anxiety, hugging creates a feeling of relaxation. It provides a feeling of safety, love and security, thus helping you to increase your self-esteem . It succours to minimise negative feelings and replace them positive ones...

Emotional Support Animals

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome back <3 Don't we all love animals? Well this post is another reason for the same :) I recently watched a tv show called 'The Healing Powers of Dude' on Netflix which led to the inspiration of writing this post. We've all heard of a term called 'support animals', perhaps even come across it in real life; but do we completely understand the concept behind it? In today's post I'll be breaking down the basics of this term and the benefits it provided its users with.  To start off, What are 'Emotional Support Animals'? An Emotional Support Animal is an animal that provides therapeutic benefit to a person suffering from a serious mental health condition. They are used in clinical settings to bring comfort by their presence and other possessed qualities to individuals in need. Their presence alone is what is thought to provide their owner with solace and therapeutic benefit. How are they different from pets? In most cases dog...

Revenge Bedtime Procrastination

Image
Hey everyone!  So almost a year ago, I wrote a post on  procrastination  to which I got a really great response to! One of my friend then told me about something called 'Revenge Bed-Time' procrastination and recommended me to write on it.   I did my reading and it seemed like a really unique and new topic so without further ado, here we go :) Starting off, What is "Revenge Bedtime Procrastination?" “Revenge sleep time procrastination” – could be interpreted by saying it is staying up late in a self-revenge way – but it isn't always  about procrastinating. It is about compensating yourself rationally after a day consumed by duties and responsibilities. The night time is the only time to have valuable “me-time” and “regain control”. It is a conscious choice to stay up late so that you can feel like yourself again. With so many different things out of our control, the one factor human beings can manage is when they determine to go to sleep. And even thoug...

Why 'Brooklyn Nine Nine' Is Your Ultimate Binge

Image
Heyyo everybody! Welcome back to month 18 of #faltufriday! Brooklyn Nine Nine. A show that I've watched over nine (million) times :P Anyone who knows me, would describe me as an absolute fanatic of watching TV shows; but, there are a few which are very close to me-which include 'Friends' and 'Brooklyn Nine Nine'(and many more) There's a gazillion reasons why I love watching this one particular TV serial over and over again; and also recommending it to EVERY SINGLE PERSON EVER.  This led me to decide, why not share my crazy obsession about it with the whole world? So without further ado, lets get to it! For anyone who is unaware of what the show is about, its basically a cop comedy featuring various aspects and stories from a closely knit squad of the NYPD in the 99th precinct.  Besides the 'die hard' fan of Die Hard, the protagonist Jake Peralta, being my favourite character, there are numerous reasons why I'm in LOVE with the show. Here's just ...

Mental Health Myths

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back<3 Today's post is based on an EXTENSIVELY researched one which I've been working on since last year.  Several Instagram questionnaires, talking with professionals to even my own experience around these.    Super hard decision to narrow these down to just top 5, but hey, gonna do a part two soon if y'all want it :) All of us have had various misconceptions about different topics and many of its branches such as Anxiety, OCD , Bipolar Disorder, Depression, etc. This post is not gonna cover any particular topic in depth rather the ones we hear in all of our day to day lives, with regards to "Mental Health". Without further ado, let's get to it! We can all agree that we HAVE heard this at least once in our lives. I guarantee you have. It's time we bust this myth hmm? MENTAL DISORDERS AND GOING TO THERAPY DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAK. Let's have that cleared out. This is no more true than saying that a broken leg is a sign of weakne...
