I INTERNED AT THE TIMES OF INDIA!

Image
YES! At Mumbai's editorial division. And it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life :) Hello everyone and welcome back to month 35 of #faltufridays! I feel like all the happening things in my life typically 'happen' over the summers and thought it would be cool to share some of it with you guys!  (ps. I'm not trying to brag; please don't mistake it for the same!)  Without further ado, Let's get to it :) The Times Of India does not need an introduction, it is an established fact that ToI is the ‘ World’s largest selling English Newspaper ’. Right from the beginning, I received the opportunity to contribute and work alongside seasoned professionals. Just on my 2nd day of the Internship, I was assigned to attend a Press Conference on ‘Manipur riots’, at the prestigious Press Club of Mumbai, as TOI’s sole representative. In attendance were esteemed Print and Television journalists from various media houses. This exhilarating experience led to my first

It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me!

And I'm totally not writing this blog 6 months after the song was released! Hi everyone and welcome back! Happy 150TH POST!!! Truth be said, I was extremely scared to release this post because I wasn't sure how the Swifties out there would take it (but dw I got it approved so we're good to go!) If you haven't heard the phrase  It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me!, congratulations, you're a boomer (just kidding!) This line is from Taylor Swift's song, Anti Hero; part of her most recent album, Midnights. It took the world by storm on its release and made it to every reel possible on Instagram and Tiktok. However, I realised I personally haven't come across a blog with this title, so I thought - why not be the first? Accha okay enough introduction, let's jump into the post :) Have you ever felt blah? Just..not in your element? And raise your hand if you've blamed yourself for feeling that way. I can't ever retain friends; they all det

Self Criticism

Image
It's true. They're not. I watched Schitt's creek for the second time a few months ago just to re-enjoy the warmth and joy this show brings. The show is packed with some beautiful heartwarming lines and scenes; the above is just one of them. This line greatly resonated with me because David (the protagonist) was going through something nearly all of us have but have no clue how to snap out of. Self Criticism. Pretty self-explanatory to its core - it's the act of demeaning and disregarding yourself and your achievements, thinking that you're worth nothing and all your work is terrible and useless.  You develop a constant tendency to over-evaluate yourself and fall into a void of constant spiralling. You literally critique every single thing you try to do and it can stem from various sources such as childhood trauma, toxic parenting, diminished self-confidence and constant rejection. The biggest problem is, as mentioned above, you just can't stop once you're i

Doom Scrolling

Image
It's as scary as it sounds. Hello everyone and welcome back! Have you ever thought to yourself, "Just 5 minutes of Instagram and I'll get back to studying at 3:000pm" and then suddenly realise it's been 2 hours? Welcome to ✨Doom Scrolling✨ The act of mindlessly scrolling through Social Media, normally used in the context of bad news. This word found its origin on Twitter and was mainly used during the Covid-19 pandemic. People would endlessly scroll through media, being exposed to negative posts thereby affecting their own mental peace. It mainly stems from loneliness, isolation and FOMO . There is a constant urge to be updated with everything that's going on and not be able to snap out of the void.  This, of course, can greatly affect your mental and well as physical health. Scientifically speaking, doom-scrolling can increase stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol in your body. Your body stays in a constant state of alertness or panic making it di

Self Obsession vs. Self Love

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back! Keep reading to find out how I incorporate Bollywood into this post, yet again :) I'm sure we've all met a few narcissistic people in our life, right? Needless to say, it's annoying to talk to one. They come off as 'full of themselves', egoistic or simply ignorant, believing the whole world revolves around them. The confusion however lies in the fact that many people tend to think being self-obsessed (narcissism) is the same as  Self Love (an extremely important component of our Mental Health.) So, without further ado, let's break the difference between the two! What is "Self Obsession" Poo (Kareena Kapoor) from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Someone who is so into themselves that they forget that there are other people around; a bit egoistic and well, very vain. They tend to come off as selfish due to their self-centered attitude, and usually, they're not the most favourite person in the group. (P.S. Don't be this p

Life Lessons from YJHD

Image
Hello hello and welcome back to month 34! of #faltufridays :) I think it's time we make things official - This blog is a dedicated Bollywood fan club haha! To commemorate the same, today's blog post is the first of many bi-annual Bollywood-based blogs so without further ado, let's get right to it! As many of you know, I had previously written a blog post on why I'm the real-life version of Naina Talwaar from the movie, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.  This year, on 31st May, marks the 10-year anniversary of this iconic film and I could think of no better topic than to share some of the precious life lessons (the non-cliched ones) this movie imparts. Starting off with number 1 , Stop feeling bad for yourself and start loving who you are. You're fine, just the way you are. ( Khud pe daya karna band karo, aur khud see pyaar karna seekho. Tum jesi ho, bilkul theek ho. )

Bereavement

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back! A lot of us may not be familiar with the term ' Bereavement', and truth be said, I wasn't too until recently.  This was something I came across on social media and thought of sharing with you all because I realized this is something that takes place through all stages of life, and the earlier you know it, the better. So, without further ado, let's get to it! Starting off with the obvious,  What is Bereavement? In simple terms, it is the  period of grief and mourning after a death or a loss occurs. Grieving is a normal reaction to loss. One may experience it as an emotional reaction which could be either physical or mental. Sometimes, mental reactions can include anger, guilt, anxiety, sadness and despair. Emotions can be overwhelming after dealing with the loss-not necessarily death. It could be anything that you truly cared about; a job, relationship or change in a person's health.  This  phenomenon is coined as 'Bereavement

Khayali Pulao's vs Goals

Image
Hellew everyone and welcome backzo! I'm pretty sure all of us have spent a significant time 'drooling' over imaginative scenarios in our heads.  Who doesn't? It's fun! You're in your own world; it's ideal, everything goes your way, you win the Grammy's for best new artist and totally don't use the shampoo bottle as a mic for your speech.  (wow now I derailed too much and TMI haha) Point is, we've all done it, continue to do it and there's no major reason to stop it. But, when these situations don't work out in real life, they tend to leave a hole in our heart. And that hole is hard to fix.  A  goal  is something you dedicate your time and efforts to, in achieving something in particular, like getting 95%+ in your exams. It drives you. Khayali Pulao's on the other hand are similar to expecting to be a National topper in your Board exams.  after wasting the year. There's a difference right? However, at times, Khayali pulaos' or

Your Mental Illness ≠ Your Whole Personality.

Image
Hey everyone and welcome back :) Today's post is based on something personal as well as something I observed around me quite a lot. It's also inspired by a poem I authored recently, Classroom of Crazy. Many at times, when a person comes out about their mental illness, people tend to associate it as the only thing about them.  Whether they are talking to you or simply are an acquaintance, when people find out, it always stays at the back of their minds for whatever you do. "Oh they're probably doing this because they have OCD" "Oh this is just her Anxiety speaking" Guess what! It's only probable. Maybe they're extremely talkative because their personality is extroverted - not just because they have ADHD. People having a Mental Illness have a lot more to them than just it. And if you want to be friends with them, the least you can do is not discriminate or judge them on the basis of it. Rather accept them for who they are. (It's similar to h

My Biggest Fear.

Image
I cannot believe I'm about to expose myself like this.     Deep breaths.  Calm down. (I'm Kevin in this picture.) Hey everyone and welcome backzo to month 33 of #faltufridays! I have always been petrified by this one thing (wait wait, I'll expose it soon - right now I need to clickbait) that has made my childhood (and teenage) a living hell. I mean literally.  There hasn't been a single party or celebration where this "thing" hasn't marked its grand presence and left me terrified.  Yes, guys. You guessed it right (I'm guessing lol) I have an irrational fear of Balloons. I know it sounds extremely stupid, but yes. It is true. If you ask me for the reason behind this fear, I have no clue. I discovered it when I was 4 at a birthday party and a magician had come to perform. With what my vague recollection entails, I remember seeing a glazed balloon being cut into half by an axe, making a booming sound, a brief moment where I felt that I had fainted, and t
