Mental Health Movies

Image
Hii! Welcome back to month 16 of #faltufriday!  Being an avid T.V. watcher I have always loved consuming content in the form of movies and T.V. Shows.  Couple of months ago, I had written on recommendations of my favourite T.V. shows which recently gave me rise to an idea; why not share my favourite movies too?  So, in that case, here are my "most loved" and go-to movies on Mental Health which I can watch innumerable number of times and never get bored of :) Number One: Charlie, a 15-year-old introvert, enters high school and is nervous about his new life. When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's demise and his tumultuous past. The reason I like this film is because it looks at the reality of mental illness among high school students. This film suggests the grim reality of living through a mental illness and having to deal with people who do not understand or care to understand. This film “normalizes” what Charlie is going through and show...

Bulimia

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back <3 In last week's post we discussed about a type of eating disorder known as Anorexia. Aaj ke post mey we are going to talk about another type known as Bulimia. This is a kind of eating disorder often glorified in several number of TV shows.  To start off, Bulimia is a serious psychological eating disorder in which one has episodes of consuming a large quantity of food in one sitting aka binge eating. During these binges, one loses their sense of control over their eating. It’s binge eating followed by purging. Purging can occur through forced vomiting, excessive exercise, or by taking laxatives or diuretics, or any other such methods. People with bulimia purge follow a binge-and-removal cycle. Purge behaviours also include other strict methods to maintain weight like fasting, exercise, or extreme dieting. Though their isn't just one particular root cause, researchers believe this eating disorder may begin with dissatisfaction with one's body ...

Anorexia

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back <3 Today's post is based on a topic which I came across from a real life incident. A lot of us may have also heard about it on the TV show , " Never have I ever" too. Before we get started, this post will be solely based on what exactly Anorexia is rather than tips to "overcome" it, because its not that "easy" after all.  So to start off, In layman's terms,  Anorexia is an eating disorder that leads to markedly reduced appetite or a complete aversion to food. People with anorexia constantly try to keep their weight as low as they can by not eating enough food.   The condition, in technical terms called anorexia nervosa, is going well past the boundaries of healthy dieting. Besides excessive dieting, someone with anorexia may additionally do great amounts of exercise, way past the recommended levels. This may also lead them to  being extraordinarily weak and starved. A person with anorexia, however, has a distorted b...

The Glorification of Eating Disorders

Image
Eating Disorders have often been misperceived which has led to multiple repercussions.  They have been ignored, as well as, misdiagnosed . However, a factor common to both is that it has become a "trend" to have some sort of a disorder-now in the limelight- Eating Disorders . Not only is this wrong, but the reason people endorse in this is because they are unaware of what it actually is. This fad is not good and has to be brought to a full stop; No Mental Disorders are something to be joked about. That being said, to prevent further misconception about this topic, let's clear out What exactly is an "Eating Disorder"? In simple words, it is a serious mental illness, characterised by eating, exercise and body weight or shape becoming an unhealthy lifestyle of someone's life.  One tries using food to manage their feelings. They tend to have an baleful relationship with food. This may be eating too much or too little food. Maybe eating a lot of food in one sitti...

The Queen Of Silly Mistakes :)

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to month 15 of #faltufriday! For today's post I thought, why not write about something that more or less DEFINES me? If you're my pedagogue reading this, you have to agree that 90% of my papers are full of this 🤷🏻‍♀️  " The Queen of Silly Mistakes " is a title my mom had given me in 5th grade.  Nearly every single paper I've written till date and not scored full in, I have lost due to the most foolish mistakes ever! One instance was when I almost scored full in a math exam, but lost it as I wrote two numbers closely and ended up copying the wrong answer in my final statement🤦‍♀️ Another time I lost marks was when I ended up writing 9 instead of 19 and when I wrote a wrong unit for 3 questions and lost 2 marks 👍😃 These are just a few! Anyone going through my papers will just be straight up appalled. It's really embarrassing when you know the answer but end up losing it due to the absolute silliest of errors. Not to forget how ...

Journaling

Image
Hey everyone, Welcome back! Should we incorporate journaling into our daily lives? This was a question I had asked myself when I had initially started journaling . I'm sure we are all familiar with the term 'journaling'. We may have even tried it out for a while but failed to keep up with it after a couple of days(I did too). For me the main reason was that I tried doing this daily and made it a "task" rather than an easing mechanism. About a year after giving up on journaling I finally decided to take it up again to help with my anxiety. To my surprise-IT WORKS! Penning down your thoughts helps. So, I thought why not share it's importance in our lives through a post :) When we think of the term journaling the first thought or rather picture that comes to our minds look something like this or something that you saw above:  Something really aesthetic and good looking which makes it perfect for an Instagram post. Loads of colours, highlighters, pictures and wha...

Burn Out

Image
Burn out. Something that has become really very common in today's times among everyone-be it kids, teens or adults. In today's post, I'll mainly be focussing on it from a teen's perspective. In all honestly, I'll admit the source of inspiration for this post was through a podcast episode which I'll linking below :D But before I get to that let us first understand, What exactly is Burn Out? When you google this term, the first answer you'll get this definition: Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. Though this is pretty self explanatory, it does not convey the entire meaning of the term 'Burn Out'.  Burnout can take distinctive forms, affecting someone physically, emotionally, and behaviourally. Burnout can consist of physical and mental symptoms such as frequent illness, disengagement and detachment along with blunted effect of feelings of frustration, helplessness, and hopelessne...

World Mental Health Day!

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back!! Aaj ka post is a little different.  Why? BECAUSE ITS A COLLABORATIVE ONE!! Recently, I had collaborated with a youth organisation known as @theworldunheard on their Instagram platform! Today's post is based mainly on what I did during the week and the importance of the activities :) Without further ado, let's get to it! 'Our world unheard'  is a youth led social media activism platform that discusses social, political and environmental issues that don’t receive the media coverage that they deserve. Dedicated to raising awareness about issues like feminism, the LGBTQ community, political crisis and laws, and so much more, they share awareness in the form of posts and stories every day. It was started in May of 2020, and has grown to 2 teams, with a total of 16 members working on creating content and raising awareness.  Social media has become a platform for education and information in this digital age, especially for younger audience, a...

"Facebook Therapy Memes"

Image
A lot of us may have come across this template also known as 'Facebook memes' on our social media feeds-I did too. It really annoyed me because a lot of people neglect the need to go to actual therapy and seem to 'recover' by looking at such memes. Not to mention, many at times these posts are accompanied with captions impeding therapy and calling it a 'scam'. I took an online poll via my Instagram account and the response was analogous. There were people pro to such kind of memes and on the other hand people who were not so much. It really helped me look at this topic from both the point of views and wanted to discuss whether this is actually a good thing or not which is why I chose to write a post on it. Let's get to it! Out of 100 people voting, the number was an exact 50-50 tie. I also had plenty of people expressing their point of views for their choice in my dm's.  Although a lot of people said was that it was a "coping mechanism" and a...

I GOT INTERVIEWED?!

Image
Heyyo everyone! Welcome back to Month 14 of #faltufriday! As the title of this post suggested, YES I GOT INTERVIEWED!! (I'll be dropping the link to it at the end of the post so don't forget to check it out!) Milestones right?? :) Anyway, today's post is basically on my entire experience so enjoy!! Being a Mental Health blogger I recently volunteered to give a talk to aspiring bloggers and fellow teens on a talk show known as ' The Achievers Table ' The Achiever's Table is a Forum made keeping in mind the young and aspiring teenagers who have the urge to achieve success in life. The show helps today’s youth have a broader idea of conventional and unconventional career paths, expanding their horizons into the “real world” and much more! It also enables the aspiring section of the society to come out of their shells and meet more like-minded people. They aim to motivate our society’s young and aspirational section to think out of the box fearlessly. So here go...
