Image
Hi everyone! Welcome backk!! Today's post is one on which I've been meaning to write on for a really long time and finally got the opportunity to.    Social Media Is Bad For Your Mental Health Perhaps something which we have all heard at some time but blissfully chosen to ignore (I did too eep :p) Until recently, when I deactivated most of my social media due to my exams did I realise the harmful impacts of social media in our lives.  I cannot comprehend into words how relieved I felt those 4 weeks I was away from the media.  Most of us don't understand something until we actually go through it. The amount of FOMO and drama that it feeds you with is unimaginable.  Social Media    fuels the need to present yourself in a particular manner, follow a particular regime, and overall be this " perfect person ". It takes a terrible toll on your mental health, often leading to various repercussions. A few of which include: HORRIBLE amounts of anxiousness Cyberbullying is

Social Media- A Boon or a Bane?

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back to month 8 of #faltufriday where I talk about something totally random which alot of ya'll might relate to :) Today's post is based on a topic which I'm pretty sure every single one of us has written an essay on or debated upon in school EVERY YEAR! With the academic year coming to an end, due to the pandemic, I don't think most of us wrote an essay on it (for the millionth time) which is why I decided, why not write it on my blog to refresh 'old' memories😂 This is undoubtedly on of the most controversial topics of all time that is similarly cherished and hated relying on the polarizing behaviour. For some, it’s a must and for few, it’s a curse. We all recognise what social media is and the way over the years, with the net being the catalyst, has impacted our daily lives. I for one stand for the fact that social media is a boon; especially during these times. Technology is something that is constantly evolving; every minute somethin

FOMO

Image
A couple of days ago, I asked you all on my social media accounts on what you thought having FOMO is like and I was really shocked with the responses I got. Some of you gave direct facts that made sense and there were some which did not so much. Here were a few of your responses: To comprehend, fear of missing out is a social tension stemmed from the perception that others are probably having amusing even as the individual experiencing the tension isn't present. It is characterised with the aid of using a preference to live constantly related to what others are doing. FOMO is likewise described as a worry of regret, which can also additionally cause issues that one may omit a possibility for social interaction, a singular enjoy or a worthwhile investment. It is the concern that identifying now no longer to take part is the wrong choice. What are its negative impacts on our Mental Health? It seems likely that too much FOMO harms your mental health. Social networking creates many p

Dopamine Detox

Image
I spent nearly 20 hours on Instagram, 15 hours on Youtube and 14 hours on Netflix one week. It's safe to say I suffered from a crippling case of Phone Addiction. Hello everyone and welcome back! The stats you read above is not limited to just me.  Nearly every teenager with an access to social media suffers from the above. I've spoken about Phone addiction   and Doom Scrolling    in my earlier posts but for today's post, I thought, why not share a few tips to overcome the same? Without further ado, Let's dive right into it! Firstly, What is a "Dopamine Detox" and Why is it important? It's reducing the amount of content intake we consume from the tiny little box we carry around in our pockets 24x7. This post is mainly going to focus on Dopamine Detox in relation to social media. Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat, Twitter - you name the media - are packed with news and content. Content that keeps you hooked. Content that brings the app, money. Content that makes

Social Media: A Reminder

Image
Hey everyone!  If you're an ardent reader of my blog, you may have noticed that I've authored a few posts based on Social Media and its downsides on our mental health. (if you're not, don't worry, I'll be linking them all at the end!) This led me to thinking, what happens after you address a problem? Yes. You find solutions. So, in today's post I'll be writing about a few ways to combat the toxicity of social media(in a realistic way).  Without further ado, let's get to it :) Number 1 A lot of times, we may have come across posts of people hanging out in big groups and having a lot of fun whereas you're at home studying. Throughout 10th grade I had an excessive feeling of this but then I'd remind myself that my studying is going to get me somewhere. It doesn't mean that having fun is bad, just that I have it scheduled for some other time. Number 2 Reiterating, staring at the fun people are having at a social event you weren't invited to

Trigger Warnings

Image
Hey everyone!  Trigger warnings have become an absolute necessity of today's times.  Very often we see people use the phrase "tw: *subject* " on social media, however, not a lot of us seem to understand the actual use and importance behind it. So, I thought, why not tackle this uprising subject for this week's post?  Without further ado, let's get to it :) Before we get to the importance of them, let us first understand What exactly are "Trigger Warnings"? A trigger warning is a statement made prior to sharing potentially disturbing content of various topics. These deliver messages of warnings in order to allow people to prepare emotionally for the content or to decide to forgo interacting with the content. In simpler words, it is a trauma trigger that prompts recall of a previous traumatic experience in the brain and has various repercussions.   Now that we have that out in the clear, let's proceed to the next important question: What is its import

The Glorification of Eating Disorders

Image
Eating Disorders have often been misperceived which has led to multiple repercussions.  They have been ignored, as well as, misdiagnosed . However, a factor common to both is that it has become a "trend" to have some sort of a disorder-now in the limelight- Eating Disorders . Not only is this wrong, but the reason people endorse in this is because they are unaware of what it actually is. This fad is not good and has to be brought to a full stop; No Mental Disorders are something to be joked about. That being said, to prevent further misconception about this topic, let's clear out What exactly is an "Eating Disorder"? In simple words, it is a serious mental illness, characterised by eating, exercise and body weight or shape becoming an unhealthy lifestyle of someone's life.  One tries using food to manage their feelings. They tend to have an baleful relationship with food. This may be eating too much or too little food. Maybe eating a lot of food in one sitti

Mental Health during a Pandemic

Image
Heyy! Welcome back! I tried avoiding writing about this topic for a really long time mostly cause I didn't know how it felt to go through it until I had a conversation with my friend on this topic. We came across a post on social media based on this topic and how its affected innumerable number of people who are confined in their homes. Staying alone with your thoughts is itself a scary thing. But for over 7 months?! That is literally a devil's workshop. A lot of people weren't allowed to leave their homes for natural reasons. This has led a lot of people to overthink and has caused a lot of people's mental health to be scarred. Numerous types of anxieties and stress have developed over the course of these 7 months and  in some cases it has gotten serious. People have drifted apart whereas some have gotten really close. I relate to that because people whom I didn't even know last year are now one of my best friends! Nevertheless, I wanna discuss about a few activi

Body Shaming

Image
So I've genuinely lost the number of times I've witnessed this in front of my eyes. It's not something that's been recently started; its been there for long.  And the fact that it's still there- even after everything going on in the world- its just wOw. I mean like what do you get from it? Why do you wanna demean another person for their appearance? Like what happiness does it get you by criticizing another person on the basis of how they look?! What it doesn't match the level of  society's 'perfect body'? "God! They're  so fat. What a pig" or "They're so skinny man. Such a stick."  I've heard these comments no kidding-  Hence, I've decided to play my part in spreading awareness on how to avoid making such comments and why it's hurtful. First to answer the main question- What is Body Shaming? We know the basic definition; commenting something on a persons body in a negative view.  It is indeed another type of b

Instagram: Worthy vs Worth It.

Image
Heilo heilo, Welcome backzo! Keep reading to join a movement as part of my 3 year blog anniversary :) PC: The New York Times It is an established fact that teenagers of this age are far more concerned about their social image online as compared to real life (myself included haan) And while it's a good thing to maintain a safe web presence, over the years, it has spiralled into a far worse, unhealthy coping mechanism.   I saw this happening to both, myself as well as my peers and of course, I had to blog about it :) Without further ado, Let's get to it! I cannot be the only one who's been to an incredibly beautiful place, managed to click "a few" decent pictures and sent them to my best friend asking which one's should I post/story. Cmon, we've all done this. And there's nothing wrong in it - sab karte hai. "Is this main worthy?" This quote is the purpose of my post.  Have we really come down to a generation where we need to feel "worthy

World Mental Health Day!

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back!! Aaj ka post is a little different.  Why? BECAUSE ITS A COLLABORATIVE ONE!! Recently, I had collaborated with a youth organisation known as @theworldunheard on their Instagram platform! Today's post is based mainly on what I did during the week and the importance of the activities :) Without further ado, let's get to it! 'Our world unheard'  is a youth led social media activism platform that discusses social, political and environmental issues that don’t receive the media coverage that they deserve. Dedicated to raising awareness about issues like feminism, the LGBTQ community, political crisis and laws, and so much more, they share awareness in the form of posts and stories every day. It was started in May of 2020, and has grown to 2 teams, with a total of 16 members working on creating content and raising awareness.  Social media has become a platform for education and information in this digital age, especially for younger audience, and

What's Causing So Much Anxiety in Students?

Image
Anxiety or the feeling of anxiousness has become a constant issue among students of this age. School can be rife with stress, disquietude and worry. Not just academically, even social situations and norms have caused a steep rise in anxiety among the youth. Keeping up with futile trends, having the perfect image, interpersonal issues as well as peer pressure has played a key role in the up rise of this mental health illness.  So then the question arises, "If this is that common, where do we even know where this originates from?" The answer is simple-everywhere. The environment the youth is exposed to has multiple repercussions-one of which include anxiety. It can come from something that is happening in school, something that is happening online or even something at home. These three places are the most places where an adolescent spends 90% of time in; and that is where this can arise.  For most cases, one sees the first signs of anxiety are seen between the ages of kindergar

Doom Scrolling

Image
It's as scary as it sounds. Hello everyone and welcome back! Have you ever thought to yourself, "Just 5 minutes of Instagram and I'll get back to studying at 3:000pm" and then suddenly realise it's been 2 hours? Welcome to ✨Doom Scrolling✨ The act of mindlessly scrolling through Social Media, normally used in the context of bad news. This word found its origin on Twitter and was mainly used during the Covid-19 pandemic. People would endlessly scroll through media, being exposed to negative posts thereby affecting their own mental peace. It mainly stems from loneliness, isolation and FOMO . There is a constant urge to be updated with everything that's going on and not be able to snap out of the void.  This, of course, can greatly affect your mental and well as physical health. Scientifically speaking, doom-scrolling can increase stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol in your body. Your body stays in a constant state of alertness or panic making it di

Phone Addiction!

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back :) Today's post is based on something nearly every single person presently suffers from: ✨Phone Addiction✨ We've all heard of the surveys that show the average amount of time a person spends on their phone. Recently, the numbers in India have risen up to 4.5 to 5 hours. And this is just the average of all age groups. Ask a teenager what their screen time is and I can guarantee you it would be no less than 6 hours (some exceptions included of course). 6 hours is the mean time people spend ideally sleeping or in school. (Okay enough with the emphasizing ; you get the idea - we spend an obnoxious amount of time glued to our phones.) But the real question is, Why? Simply, the applications. Teens who have active social media apps are 90% more likely to spend their majority time on their phone as compared to someone who has an imposition on these apps.  A secret that most developers don't reveal is that these apps are literally designed to keep you hook

Cyber Bullying

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back! I had authored a post titled  Social Media Is Bad For Your Mental Health!  which led me to ponder over one of the most common ill effects of it - the effect of Cyber Bullying on our mental health. A lot of us are probably well acquainted with the term "Cyber Bullying"; but for some who aren't, here's a basic overview of it: What is Cyber Bullying?  When you google this term, the first sentence that pops up reads, " The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature. " In simpler words, a person (mostly adolescents) is bullied, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or targeted in some way by another person. It is similar to real life physical bullying except it is done by both known as well as unknown people on the internet. They tend to name call, troll and threaten the other person.  This brings us to the next, and the most important part of this post,
