T.V. Show Recommendations

Image
Ok first things first, wishing y'all a very Merry Christmas. Welcome back to month 5 of #faltufriday where I talk about something totally random.  I took your suggestions and lot of ya'll wanted to know my top 5 show recommendations so here we go :) Number 5: The Good Place I've personally been really fond of this show since last year because its so different from the others. The entire concept and characters of the story is just incredible. T he first season follows Eleanor Shellstrop , a lady invited after her demise to "the Good Place", a profoundly particular Heaven-like perfect world planned and run by eternity "draftsman" Michael as a compensation for her upright life. The Good Place is where the individuals who have been acceptable for the duration of their lives go whenever they have died. At the point when Eleanor shows up at the Good Place, she understands she has been confused with another person, and looks for help from another companion to

Stop "Glorifying" OCD

Image
It's not what we often mistake for it to be. Its not just another term for "organized".  Obsessive and compulsive traits on their own are not a mental illness — we all have things that perhaps we obsess over. But for a person with OCD they can’t just “snap out of it.” .The brain of a person with OCD actually functions differently, essentially getting “stuck” on a thought. These thoughts are linked with intense anxiety driving the individual with OCD to engage in compulsive behaviour which is their only escape. The way OCD is portrayed is the worst. What exactly is "OCD"? Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder that influences human beings of every age and walks of life, and takes place when someone gets stuck in a cycle of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause intensely distressing feelings. Compulsions are behaviours an individual engages in to try to get rid of the obsession

Self Care Myths

Image
What is Self Care? The definition of 'Self Care' and what it is has often been misunderstood by a lot of people.  It is any activity you deliberately do in order to take care of your emotional and physical well-being.  It's not particularly taking a bath in a bathtub with candles and stuff and neither is it just binging Netflix all day long.   The term Self care has been a misconception which is why I've decided to debunk Top 5 Self Care Myths that have existed but make no sense. Believing that self-care is selfish is a relationally based myth that has roots in idolizing self-sacrifice over caretaking. The words “guilt” and “selfish”  are used synonymously when it comes to self-care. The reality is that we cannot be present for others or ourselves when we don’t take care of our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. To reframe, self-care is really not 100% about you. It is about being able to attend to your needs so you can show up in the best way possible for o

Self Doubt

Image
Lack of Self Confidence is something I have personally gone through(still do :P)  in my life and honestly it's as annoying as it sounds. We all go through it at some point or other, but that's not what I wanna talk about. I'm not gonna focus on the common timidity rather, on the condition where we tend to overthink our decisions to such a length, that it ends up harming our Mental Health . What if I mess up? I'll make a fool of myself? What will people say?  I'm just not smart enough, talented enough, capable enough, experienced enough? These thoughts often tend to cross our minds the second we take a decision. I am guilty as charged.  What is "Self Doubt"? The ideal definition- Self-doubt occurs when we lack confidence or feel incapable of doing things we need to do.  This we all know; which is the common condition.  This in fact is the reason on how it can grow and literally take over your mind.  It is the condition where we tend to hesitate or vacilla

Maggi-An emotion

Image
Maggi.  Its not just a food item. Its an emotion. Welcome back to month four of #faltufriday where I talk about something totally random and aaj I'm gonna talk about my go to food for literally any situation. Its something I can have anytime, anywhere. And yeh milta bhi har jage hai. Whether its in the heat of Rajasthan or the freezing cold of Switzerland.  This is one standard food which is found in any part of the world and tastes the same everywhere. The variety of dishes you can make with this one simple food is beyond bounds. I, myself can make around 15 different Maggi dishes. And I'm open to more ok. I LOVE experimenting food. The saddest part has to be when it got banned for brief time in India. I vividly remember actually sobbing and looking at people selling the ₹10 packets for 100 bucks and people actually bought it! Nothing beats the feeling when they actually came back to the market and I finally got a packet.  Maggi is something that doesn't have a specific ti

Normalize Crying.

Image
Crying. It's seen as a sign of weakness. Literally. You shed one tear and bam you have label on yourself-"Weak". I often wonder why? Is it so wrong to express how you're feeling?? Or is it to have a social character of yourself as "strong"? Does it really give you that much pride?     It's not something new. Its existed for quite some time but now it's time to bring that to a full stop. We need to stop labelling people just for expressing what they are feeling. I wanna explain why Crying is okay. At times, when we get frustrated over something or are overwhelmed by something or just sad, we tend to burst it out. Shouting or yelling or throwing stuff. Kuch bhi. But at the end what we all resort to is crying in private. Why so?  This is because we don't want to show people our real feelings. We feel like they're going to "judge" us. We feel minor. And this true I'm not kidding. I've seen SO may people go through this that it

Anxiety- Does it Exist?

Image
Anxiety: Calling We're all familiar with the term "anxiety" but do we really know what it exactly is? Everyone just says "I'm having so much anxiety" or "Mujhe anxiety hai" without really knowing voh hai kya.  I recently came across a few people who not only did not know anxiety was, but also refused to believe that something like that existed. I was appalled after they left. I mean not only do you not know what it is but tumhe believe hi nahi karna hai that it is something!  When I asked them what they thought anxiety   was, they said it was just a "technical term" used by this generation  to act cool and stuff and an excuse to get out of personal and social responsibilities. I was like-What?! I was totally stunned that there are some people who are clueless about it and then make such comments I mean-?? So, I decided to play my part and help spread awareness on what it actually is and what you can do to help. What is "Anxiety&quo

Body Shaming

Image
So I've genuinely lost the number of times I've witnessed this in front of my eyes. It's not something that's been recently started; its been there for long.  And the fact that it's still there- even after everything going on in the world- its just wOw. I mean like what do you get from it? Why do you wanna demean another person for their appearance? Like what happiness does it get you by criticizing another person on the basis of how they look?! What it doesn't match the level of  society's 'perfect body'? "God! They're  so fat. What a pig" or "They're so skinny man. Such a stick."  I've heard these comments no kidding-  Hence, I've decided to play my part in spreading awareness on how to avoid making such comments and why it's hurtful. First to answer the main question- What is Body Shaming? We know the basic definition; commenting something on a persons body in a negative view.  It is indeed another type of b

The Fragrance of Pujo

Image
Heyy! Welcome back to month 3 of  'Faltu Friday' where I talk about something totally random. Today I wanted to talk about my most awaited part of the year- Durga Puja. It's one of my favourite part of the year and the reason my blog is so successful. Welcoming Deity Durga along with her children year after year with grand spectacle has become a major part of our lives. The very journey of picking up the idol from maath to the visarjan is something that makes Durga Pujo so wholesome. The atmosphere of pujo outside Kolkata is analogous. Durga Puja in Mumbai is not completely based on idol worshipping but also making the festival lively with intricate detailing in all aspects. Right from the design and theme of the pandal up to the cultural programs, every preparation is made so much in advance which makes Durga pujo so much more exhilarating.  Personally, my most cherished aspect of Pujo is the variety of food stalls. ‘Anandamela’, the day when we put up stalls and sell a

The Wheel of Emotions

Image
This wheel was created by Robert Plutchik to illustrate different sentiments and responses a person has to different situations. We often tend to have have a mixture of feelings when something surprising or stupefied comes across. Whether its good marks in an exam which you thought you would fail or you're having an anxiety attack or simply just a surprise party. There's this mix of emotions which cannot be expressed in words because of the overwhelming feeling that comes on us. We often tend to be nonplussed and perplexed when such kind of circumstances fall upon us that we end up reacting completely different from what we are feeling.  Let me draw a picture for you. Imagine, you're up till 1am studying for an exam the next day. You're stressed because it's a really important. You're crying and studying and trying to cope with the great stress but you ultimately come to stop and decide to sleep. Next morning you give the exam. There's this blend of relief b
