Life Lessons from YJHD

Image
Hello hello and welcome back to month 34! of #faltufridays :) I think it's time we make things official - This blog is a dedicated Bollywood fan club haha! To commemorate the same, today's blog post is the first of many bi-annual Bollywood-based blogs so without further ado, let's get right to it! As many of you know, I had previously written a blog post on why I'm the real-life version of Naina Talwaar from the movie, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.  This year, on 31st May, marks the 10-year anniversary of this iconic film and I could think of no better topic than to share some of the precious life lessons (the non-cliched ones) this movie imparts. Starting off with number 1 , Stop feeling bad for yourself and start loving who you are. You're fine, just the way you are. ( Khud pe daya karna band karo, aur khud see pyaar karna seekho. Tum jesi ho, bilkul theek ho. )

Bereavement

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back! A lot of us may not be familiar with the term ' Bereavement', and truth be said, I wasn't too until recently.  This was something I came across on social media and thought of sharing with you all because I realized this is something that takes place through all stages of life, and the earlier you know it, the better. So, without further ado, let's get to it! Starting off with the obvious,  What is Bereavement? In simple terms, it is the  period of grief and mourning after a death or a loss occurs. Grieving is a normal reaction to loss. One may experience it as an emotional reaction which could be either physical or mental. Sometimes, mental reactions can include anger, guilt, anxiety, sadness and despair. Emotions can be overwhelming after dealing with the loss-not necessarily death. It could be anything that you truly cared about; a job, relationship or change in a person's health.  This  phenomenon is coined as 'Bereavement

Khayali Pulao's vs Goals

Image
Hellew everyone and welcome backzo! I'm pretty sure all of us have spent a significant time 'drooling' over imaginative scenarios in our heads.  Who doesn't? It's fun! You're in your own world; it's ideal, everything goes your way, you win the Grammy's for best new artist and totally don't use the shampoo bottle as a mic for your speech.  (wow now I derailed too much and TMI haha) Point is, we've all done it, continue to do it and there's no major reason to stop it. But, when these situations don't work out in real life, they tend to leave a hole in our heart. And that hole is hard to fix.  A  goal  is something you dedicate your time and efforts to, in achieving something in particular, like getting 95%+ in your exams. It drives you. Khayali Pulao's on the other hand are similar to expecting to be a National topper in your Board exams.  after wasting the year. There's a difference right? However, at times, Khayali pulaos' or

Your Mental Illness ≠ Your Whole Personality.

Image
Hey everyone and welcome back :) Today's post is based on something personal as well as something I observed around me quite a lot. It's also inspired by a poem I authored recently, Classroom of Crazy. Many at times, when a person comes out about their mental illness, people tend to associate it as the only thing about them.  Whether they are talking to you or simply are an acquaintance, when people find out, it always stays at the back of their minds for whatever you do. "Oh they're probably doing this because they have OCD" "Oh this is just her Anxiety speaking" Guess what! It's only probable. Maybe they're extremely talkative because their personality is extroverted - not just because they have ADHD. People having a Mental Illness have a lot more to them than just it. And if you want to be friends with them, the least you can do is not discriminate or judge them on the basis of it. Rather accept them for who they are. (It's similar to h

My Biggest Fear.

Image
I cannot believe I'm about to expose myself like this.     Deep breaths.  Calm down. (I'm Kevin in this picture.) Hey everyone and welcome backzo to month 33 of #faltufridays! I have always been petrified by this one thing (wait wait, I'll expose it soon - right now I need to clickbait) that has made my childhood (and teenage) a living hell. I mean literally.  There hasn't been a single party or celebration where this "thing" hasn't marked its grand presence and left me terrified.  Yes, guys. You guessed it right (I'm guessing lol) I have an irrational fear of Balloons. I know it sounds extremely stupid, but yes. It is true. If you ask me for the reason behind this fear, I have no clue. I discovered it when I was 4 at a birthday party and a magician had come to perform. With what my vague recollection entails, I remember seeing a glazed balloon being cut into half by an axe, making a booming sound, a brief moment where I felt that I had fainted, and t

Glow Ups.

Image
Hello everyone!     Welcome backzo :) Aaj ka post is based on something nearly all of us can relate to. Glow ups. Tell me I'm not the only one who's guilty of searching "How to have a glow up in 2 weeks" or "How to glow up over the summer" on Pinterest. Something common that's found in all these posts is that they always indicate weight loss, an insane amount of water intake, face masks  and of course, waking up at 5am (bruh how?) . We've all tried our luck at this and frankly, the chances of it working are 1 in a million. The reason? They're unrealistic and forced. When you force yourself to do any activity, there are negligible chances you will enjoy and succeed in it.   Instead of focussing on frivolous activities such as the above, focus on your present and important things that DO matter in the long run, such as academics (they are not a 100% of your life, but they are important.) Don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with hav

What's So Weird About This?

Image
Hey everyone and Welcome back! With the growing rate of mental issues among the youth, seeking help to combat the same has become the need of the hour. Today's post is going to be a "revamp", of my previously authored post( Read here! ) focussing more on why more than how. Happy reading! Going to Therapy. Society has unnecessarily made this a very "hush-hush" topic; and I fail to see the reason why. What's wrong about wanting to seek help? Mental issues aren't as easily visible or diagnosable as compared to a physical ailment.  Let me explain with the help of an example: You fall sick. You get fever. You know that these are the symptoms of a fever and take some meds and get better soon. If after a while the symptoms don't subside, you go to a doctor to check if it's something else. It's the same with the brain involved. You may feel sad or angry or any emotion for that matter. You'll try to get yourself through it with whatever technique

Be a Mental Health Ally

Image
(Hint: It's super easy!) Hey everyone and welcome back! When we think of the term "Ally", many of us often have a stereotypical picture of someone aggressive/bold, holding huge posters, marching on the street in the back of our minds. While this is true for a few cases, sometimes, being an ally doesn't mean doing all the above; rather just taking a few measures yourself to make the world a better, a more inclusive space. So, in today's post, I'll be sharing 3 (super easy) ways you can be a Mental Health ally-for free! Being an ally and making jokes about Mental Health is one of the most hypocritic things you can ever do.  Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong about speaking about your own mental health with a bit of humour but when you choose to say terms such as " Bro, depression ho gaya ", you're indirectly contributing to the stigma. Mental Health is not something to be joked about. It's an extremely serious topic a

(Not the one in our history textbook but in chemistry!) Hey everyone and welcome back! I've been studying Chemistry since 7th grade and every year, we have mostly the same chapters but just a more complex version of it.  This blog post idea   clicked me in the middle of my chemistry class in 11th grade and I thought it would be the perfect analogy to explain a concept relating to our Mental Health - Opinions. Without further ado, Let's get to it!
