Revenge Bedtime Procrastination

Image
Hey everyone!  So almost a year ago, I wrote a post on  procrastination  to which I got a really great response to! One of my friend then told me about something called 'Revenge Bed-Time' procrastination and recommended me to write on it.   I did my reading and it seemed like a really unique and new topic so without further ado, here we go :) Starting off, What is "Revenge Bedtime Procrastination?" “Revenge sleep time procrastination” – could be interpreted by saying it is staying up late in a self-revenge way – but it isn't always  about procrastinating. It is about compensating yourself rationally after a day consumed by duties and responsibilities. The night time is the only time to have valuable “me-time” and “regain control”. It is a conscious choice to stay up late so that you can feel like yourself again. With so many different things out of our control, the one factor human beings can manage is when they determine to go to sleep. And even though they under

Types of Procrastinators

Image
Hi everyone and welcome back! If you have been following me since the beginning of my journey, you may have noticed that I have thrown limelight procrastination by basing a few posts on them. Today's post is yet another super demanded post, however, is only slightly linked to 'teenage mental health' - the niche of my blog. Nevertheless, hope y'all enjoy reading it and without further ado, let's get to it! Procrastinators can broadly be classified under 3 groups. If you google them the results look something like this: 1. The Perfectionist These are the type of people who tend to spend so much time thinking over their task or solving one minute issue that they end up wasting the entire time dedicated to the task. They ideally procrastinate when they are overwhelmed with the fear of producing work of a low standard, or fear of failing, and in a few cases victims of OCD. 2. The Avoider Or whom I like to call, the 'ho jayega' one's. These constitute the peo

Procrastination

Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute, or past their deadline. Let's admit it, we all do it, and it comes back to bite us in the worst way every time. Nevertheless, we still don't learn from it and still continue doing it :P  A lot of y'all have often asked me how I manage to juggle between school, tuition, writing a blog, taking part in extracurricular and still managing to find time to binge shows on Netflix and sleep for long; I think the answer to that is- not procrastinating.    I learnt it the hard way but trust me, its worth it once you get a hold of it.  You, yourself will realize how many activities you can perform in a day if you just stop dilly-dallying. Why do we do it? In simple words, we often assume that projects won't take as long to finish as they really will, which can lead to a false sense of security when we believe that we still have plenty of time to complete these tasks. We feel lazy or get bored while

Perfectionism.

Perfectionism. An excuse for the lazy,  A problem to many. Heylo everyone and welcome back to my blog :) All truth disclosed I'm writing this blog at 2 am in the morning so you may be reading a totally non-Instagram-inspired blog/rant :) We've all heard the term ✨Perfectionism✨ But just as a general recap, in terms of Wikipedia: Perfectionism is a broad personality trait characterized by a person's concern with striving for flawlessness and perfection and is accompanied by critical self-evaluations and concerns regarding others' evaluations.  Simply put, It's impossible to get a task done because you're constantly concerned with the fact that it isn't "Perfect". A perfectionist is very critical of themselves as well as the world around them; typically having the mindset of "all or nothing". Stemming from perhaps childhood trauma or the burden of being the 'perfect kid' (in Indian terms: Sharma ji ka Beta/Beti), the term " Alm

The C² Crisis

Most of us have probably consumed these two products on a weekly basis, if not daily, in our lives. Coffee and Chewing Gum.  It's addiction is more common than you might think. Now, I'm sure you're all familiar with the effects it has on your physical health, right? But the lesser known fact is, the consumption of this can greatly affect your mental health as well. In today's post we'll be looking at some of the effects it has so without further ado, let's get to it! Coffee. Though research has found that caffeine can certainly help your energy levels and deal with splinting headaches, it has a terrible impact on your stress levels and sleep cycle .  It's addiction is unique. You know you are consuming it in high amounts, however, aren't able to survive the day without one, which may or may not lead to overconsumption of the same. Just a few examples are these: It produces symptoms that can easily be confused with anxiety disorders , such as panic attac

Importance of "Mental Health Days"

Image
Hey everyone! Welcome back!! In all honesty, I was not well acquainted with the term "Mental Health Days" until I saw it in a TV show . This led me to thinking if something like this actually exists, and if so, how can it benefit us? So, I did my research, started implementing it in my personal life and wanted to share with you the importance of the same :) Without further ado, let's get to it! Starting off with the obvious, What is a "Mental Health Day" If your first thought was something related to taking a break, you would be correct. A Mental Health Day is one where you absolutely cut off from your rat race life and take a step back to rejuvenate yourself. It’s a day to relax, decompress and take care of yourself overall. For example, if you've just finished with your exams and sacrificed on your sleep schedule a lot, its regaining that. If you've burnt yourself out with various stressors, its taking a pause from it.  It's taking time out to rel

Academic Validation

Image
✨Academic Validation✨ The dependence on physical awards as a sense of acknowledgement and appreciation. First things first,  This blog is not written to claim that academic validation is "bad" or that we should completely stop seeking it -  NO! It's authored to bring to the limelight the negative effects of academic validation on your mental health and how it affects not only yourself but your entire social circle.  With the school year almost coming to an end, award season awaits. For some of us, this is the most exciting time of the year - your yearlong efforts finally seek fruition. Some of us can only dream about standing at the podium. And for some, despite your hard work, you simply miss it by an inch. Now I'm someone who has experienced all 3 of the above scenarios; and if you're a "late bloomer", chances are, you have too. Getting awards, simply put, feels good.  It validates the sacrifices made: the late nights spent, and the occasional social e

Taking Breaks.

Image
Hey everyone!  Welcome back <3 A couple of month's ago, I had authored a post titled " The Importance of Mental Health Days ", which led me to write on today's blog post. Taking Breaks: Something which we either do extensively, or choose to blissfully ignore until we burn ourselves out :) I've always had a lot of people ask me how I stay so productive, managing academics, blogging and other extracurriculars. Truth is, I learnt it the hard way.  When I was in 6th grade, I was the biggest procrastinator you could ever meet.  I'd put things off until a day before the deadline, and rush to complete them in a haphazard manner, which obviously did not have great outcomes. Jump to 9th grade, I set onto the journey to buckle up my grades.  What I didn't take into account in the beginning was that I immersed myself so much in my studies, that I cut back on the other part of my life.  And naturally, this led to burn out plenty of times.  Only after I began blogg

Sleep and Mental Health-Are they related?

Image
Heyy everyone! Welcome back! So, a couple of months ago I had written on the benefits of sleep on our regular life , which gave rise to a lot of messages in my dm saying, "How are sleep and mental health related?" and "What are it's benefits on our mental health then?"  Not kidding, they were flooding! Which is why I thought, why not write on this as a blog post 🤷🏻‍♀️ Without further ado, lets get to it :) Are sleep and mental health related? The short answer is, yes. Sleep and mental health are closely interconnected.  Not getting enough sleep skews our ability to regulate our emotions. In the long run, this can increase our risk of developing a mental health condition. Poor sleep leads to worrying. Worrying leads to poor sleep. Worrying about sleep is like your mind trying to fight itself. It isn't a position you want to be stuck in. The second your sleep schedule starts messing up is when your mental health might begin to deteriorate. Not to mention, s

The Lack Of Motivation

Image
Heylo everyone! Welcome back! The Lack Of Motivation. We've all had that. Some of us even phrase it as " procrastination "; but for the rest of us, its not that. Some of us at times feel as if kyu karna hai yeh? What am I getting out of it. Telling you from personal experience, I often feel this lag too. Heck, I felt like this a couple of weeks ago too-which is what caused me to write on this topic in the first place. I have always been the world's most lazy person. Often been called a sloth by my sister :P (Fun fact: If not damselz-in-sanity , the alternate name to my blog would have been "A Sloth's Blog") Up till a couple of weeks, I used to experience extreme fatigue in even opening up blogger to write something. You could say I hit kind of a "slump" because whatever I posted wasn't that interactive or wasn't "up to the mark". I never even told anyone about this because I felt like I could get through this by myself-truth
